The Young Women's College Prep Charter School was founded in 2011 and opened in 2012 as Rochester's only all-girls public school, and today educates more than 370 girls in grades 7-12. YWCP offers young women from the City of Rochester the opportunity to learn in a single-gender environment, free from stereotypes, where a strong focus is placed on preparation for college enrollment and graduation.
The YWCP Foundation was founded at the same time as the school with the mission to help break the cycle of poverty for girls in Rochester by increasing their economic self-sufficiency through improved leadership skills, career awareness and readiness, and college readiness and access.
To accomplish this, the YWCP Foundation creates, implements and supports innovative programs for the students of YWCP Charter School that educate the “whole girl”, giving them the confidence they need to succeed in college and in life.
