WIIS West is the U.S. West Coast chapter of Women In International Security, the premier global network of women and men dedicated to advancing the leadership and professional development of women in international peace and security.
WIIS WEST was established in 2005 by graduate students of the National Security Studies program at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB).
Our chapter covers the states west of The Rockies inthe continental USA. Within this region are many public, private, and academic organizations focused on a wide variety of security issues in the National and international sphere.
We define "security" broadly to encompass a range of issues from counter-terrorism, defense and arms control to conflict prevention, peace-building, human rights and environmental security. Our areas of focus change based upon the interests and concerns of our members. Presently, we are focused on:
* Cyber Security
* Environmental Security (Includes, but not limited to: Alternative Energy, Water Security, Climate Change, Natural * Disasters, and Natural Habitat Preservation)
* Human Trafficking
* U.N. Resolution 1325
* Peace Leadership and Education
* Birthing a new era of Women, Peace, and Security
Within the peace and security field, we serve members of the public, private, and academic sectors who are based in the western provinces or states of Canada and the United States. We presently have two primary tracks of focus, one for students and entry level members, the other for mid-upper level leaders.
WIIS WEST...
