The main objective of UNESCO is to contribute to world peace, sustainable development, and security by promoting collaboration among nations.
The International Centre of Martial Arts for Youth Development and Engagement under the auspices of UNESCO is the only Category 2 Centre under the auspices of UNESCO working in the field of martial arts. It was established in December 2015, upon agreement between the Korean government and UNESCO with aim to develop and engage youth using martial arts.
UNESCO ICM’s roles include, research and knowledge sharing, youth capacity building, North-South cooperation, and managing a clearing house on martial arts.
Martial arts can teach youth values and life skills that are needed to build a culture of peace and non-violence.
