The Professor Mcm Modiba Scholarship Fund

The Professor MCM Modiba Scholarship Fund enables economically disadvantaged South Africans to study medicine at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. Prof MCM Modiba headed the Department of General Surgery at MEDUNSA (Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University’s predecessor) for 18 years. Although at one time South Africa’s leading hepatobiliary transplant surgeon he tried to inspire his students to work for the public good through his own example, refusing lucrative private work and devoting all his time to teaching, clinical work in public hospitals and research. Prof Modiba supervised dozens of registrars, many of whom were his former MBChB students, who are now leading specialists and surgeons.
