Slingshot Academy (Dept Of Education Initiative Since 2017)

Slingshot Academy is a once monthly programme developed to accommodate and guide Ireland’s 15 to 19 year olds which, by design, will stimulate the growth of future industry leaders in the areas of STEM and Entrepreneurship. The Academy will operate through monthly mentoring sessions which will encompass STEM and entrepreneurship. The mentoring sessions will provide an enjoyable and accessible resource for each and every student enrolled in the programme. The entire programme is run and operated by a team of college students and recent graduates, who are driven in their efforts to provide a world class education system in order to protect both Ireland’s youth and the industries of tomorrow. Slingshot Academy tackles the threats to Irish industry by highlighting the great importance which STEM education holds for every student, despite their varied interests. Our programme excels in weaving technology and innovation into a diverse range of subject areas in a holistic manner. Our aim is to set clear expectations for student outcomes and to facilitate connection which students must make between STEM and 21st century skills. Our challenge, our opportunity is to help every student discover how STEM & Entrepreneurship skills can be the foundation for success throughout their life no matter the pathway. Slingshot Academy is not a grind school. It prepares students for the future through personalised learning experiences at each monthly programme. It is all set in the cultural hub of The National Gallery of Ireland. Slingshot Academy is supported by Accenture Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, Bank of Ireland, SpunOut, The Irish Secondary Schools Students' Union.
