Science of Sport is an educational 501(c)(3) non-profit that brings math and science to life using sports examples for all learners. Our goal is to translate the passion for sport into an appreciation, understanding, and application for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
Through this we aim to empower students who are underperforming academically by focusing on their athletic strengths, capabilities, and interests. By demonstrating the natural connection between STEM and the sport, the students are encouraged to define and pursue better life choices, including the goal of attending college. This has the potential to improve academic achievement, provide a path to college, elevate socioeconomic status, and make our country an even better place to live.
Science of Sport was developed by Ricardo Valerdi at the University of Arizona, and since its inception we have impacted over 3,000 teachers and 300,000 students throughout the country. Science of Sport has curriculum for baseball, soccer, football, basketball, track and field, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, golf, and tennis. We have programs that we offer through professional sports teams with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, MLB Youth Academies, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, Sun Belt Conference, College Football Playoff Foundation, Orlando Magic, Houston Dynamo and Dash, Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Dallas Mavericks, LAFC, LA84 Foundation, El Paso Locomotive FC, and the New York Knicks.
