In order to address the educational conundrum in a holistic manner, USAID and Vihara (previously known as Center for Knowledge Societies) conceptualised the READ Alliance project to support and scale literacy innovations and foster effective partnerships that would allow this Alliance to make a significant contribution in ensuring better reading outcomes among primary grade learners.
Through the two rounds of Early Grade Reading Innovation Challenges held in 2014 and 2015, READ Alliance is supporting six organizations that will impact the reading skills of more than 100,000 under-served school children living in the tribal districts of Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. The Alliance also aims at training more than 1,000 teachers to provide quality reading instruction and build their capacities to help and support reading.
READ Alliance is a powerful multi stakeholder platform which brings together funds, infrastructure, knowledge and expertise from diverse sectors thus devising ecology of solutions for various challenges in early reading. This multi-stakeholder platform allows us to foster and support innovation-driven and user-centric approaches to unlock a child’s reading potential.
