The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) (Norsk senter for menneskerettigheter (SMR)) established in 1987, is a renowned multi-disciplinary human rights Centre under the Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo (UiO). The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights —promotes human rights as a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary field of research, and emphasizes the interrelation between research, education and practical efforts for the protection of human rights; —has an extended network of cooperating partners globally, including state actors, academic institutions, UN organs, and civil society organizations; and —publishes the Nordic Journal of Human Rights (NJHR) in collaboration with Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group. In addition to its highly qualified researchers in the fields of law, political science, philosophy, and social anthropology, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights has acquired extensive international expertise through international programme activities and works particularly on promoting Business and Human Rights, Equality and Non-discrimination, Freedom of Religion or Belief, Human Rights Education, Human Rights Mechanisms, and the Rule of Law. These initiatives stem from international human rights standards and recommendations by the UN and the regular reviews undertaken in the form of Universal Periodic Reviews (UPR).
