On April 1 2017, Tower Hamlets and Hackney Community College merged with Redbridge College, the merger is the second largest further education college in London and the eighth largest in the country. The 3-college group will retain their campuses in their respective boroughs, names and identities in a partnership of equals.
Hackney Community College is an Ofsted rated Good college with outstanding features, based in east London. It's Shoreditch campus is located right in the heart of Hoxton, the vibrant home and workplace of the fashion and creative industries and on the doorstep of Europe’s fastest-growing technology hub, Tech City. The Borough Principal at Hackney Community College is Lois Fowler.
The College provides education for students aged 16-18 and adults.
Students study a range of courses including A-level and vocational, GCSE and higher education and industry specific courses in accountancy, IT, early years and health and social care. There is also provision for apprenticeship training. Success rates have increased year on year, with an overall achievement rate of 94% for 2015 and over 300+ students progressing to university, including top Russell Group ones like King's, UCL and Queen Mary. It has also placed 60+ students into internship positions with KPMG, the most of any London college. IT students have secured highly sought-after degree apprenticeships at leading international companies including Accenture and Goldman Sachs.
