La Escuelita Arcoiris is Pittsburgh's oldest Spanish Immersion preschool with a focus on incorporating nature based educational experiences year-round for children ages 18 months through kindergarten.
It all began in September of 1999 in the home of founder Megan Rooney, M.Ed. Her goal was to share with her community the benefits of second-language learning at an early age.
The mission of La Escuelita Arcoiris is to serve young people and their families through a culturally diverse, creative, child-focused learning environment.
We provide pedagogical excellence through dynamic, child-centered learning programs using the principles and philosophy of Emergent Curriculum. By providing authentic and diverse educational and cultural experiences, La Escuelita Arcoiris is Pittsburgh's best and most creative early childhood language immersion program.
We firmly believe that exposure to a second language through immersion expands children intellectually, culturally and emotionally. As we build bridges to other cultures, we encourage children to invite diversity into their lives and take on the role of living, breathing bridges themselves.
To this end, we've created a safe and developmentally appropriate environment where culture and diversity are appreciated. Our students have the opportunity to become bilingual through educational means that instill confidence, creativity, and exploration.
