The International School of Tanganyika (IST) was founded in 1963 and is located in Tanzania's economic capital, Dar es Salaam. The school's name reflects Tanzanian history. Tanzania's mainland, then referred to as Tanganyika, achieved independence in 1962, and the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, forming Tanzania, occurred in 1964, after the school was founded.
IST is a well respected, established IB World School serving families in Dar es Salaam with children age 3 to Grade 12. We are an independent, non-profit, co-educational day school with an international faculty of 120 teachers and an international student body of about 900.
