HOLA was formed in 2002 as a response to a growing need within the rapidly growing Latino community in Evansville. in its earlier years, HOLA became an initial bridge between Latinos and many of the organizations and services available in the community. From 2008 to 2013 HOLA, in partnership with Nativity Catholic Church, launched the Juan Diego Latino Center, and developed a number of programs such as Health Education and Clinics, La Academia, and the HOLA Summer Camp. In 2016, HOLA launched the HOLa Latino Festival and continues to evolve the best meet the needs of our growing community.
In 2022, HOLA launched the Latino Professional Development Series in partnership with Ivy Tech Community College, University of Evansville and University of Southern Indiana to develop a comprehensive leadership series with the outcome of: Providing participants with the leadership and advocacy skills to shape organizational culture.
The HOLA Latino Professional Development Series is a comprehensive program delivered by faculty members from the three higher education partners in combination with keynote speakers. Participants will have six one-day sessions, rotating between the three institutions, over a period of a year and culminating in a graduation ceremony. We are inviting organizations to identify and sponsor up and coming Latino talent that can participate in the third cohort of this program, with the goal of preparing them for career advancement within the organization or developing Latino suppliers. The second cohort is currently participating in the program. Registration for the third cohort opens on June 2024.
