The Bamboo School Foundation is German non-profit foundation with long lasting connections in Laos as well as strong relations with governmental groups and other NGOs. Our aim is to improve education and health to the Northern Laos villages. It is our conviction that education and health are imperative preconditions of any kind of sustainable development. Therefore, Bamboo School initiates, plans, and finances various undertakings relating to infrastructure, such as: schools, boarding houses, health centres, and field research.
Our attitude towards the Lao PDR is one of respect – we see ourselves as guests. Being politically independent we do not interfere with any beliefs, religious or otherwise, nor do we engage ourselves in any activities of such kind. Furthermore, Bamboo School is not a charity organization in the strict sense – we do not donate material goods to “help” the Lao people, rather we aim at providing structures of sustainability and expect volunteers to act along these guidelines.
To date we have built completed 6 infrastructure projects:
- Primary school in Ban Huay Lor (2006)
- Primary school in Ban Phonsana (2009)
- Secondary school in Ban Sopking (2011)
- Boarding house for students in Ban Hatsa (2008)
- Health center in Muang Ngoi Neua (2013)
- Vocational training school in Nong Khiaw (2013)
Other successful programs include our ongoing health care workshops, eye surgeries performed by a German eye doctor, as well as helping remote villages have access to clean water through the provision of water tanks and filters.
