Celebrating its sixtieth anniversary in 2021, the British Institute of Persian Studies is the UK’s foremost learned society dedicated to the study and research of Iran’s heritage and culture, including its languages, literature, arts, peoples and archaeology.
Sponsored by the British Academy, the Institute is a self-governing Fellowship of distinguished scholars drawn from all areas of the humanities and social science disciplines within Iranian studies.
Our fundamental purpose is to promote and support excellence in research on Iran and the Persianate world and we take a leading role in initiating, sponsoring and collaborating with a range of local and international partners on innovative and groundbreaking research projects and fieldwork expeditions, the results of which are published in our journal, IRAN.
Membership of the Institute is open to anyone with an interest in Iran or the Persianate world.
