In August 2019, the Boston Globe editorial board published “Journalists are not the enemy” in response to our former president’s accusations, and engaged 300 newspapers across the country to join them in defending the free press. In 2019-2020, Globe editor Marjorie Pritchard agreed to sponsor the expansion of an existing Utah-based essay competition to appeal to students across the nation, in grades six through university. While school closures—due to Covid—placed the program on temporary hiatus, we are pleased to announce the launch of Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s America in the 2022-2023 school year. The Boston Globe will again lend its distinguished support as media sponsor of the national student essay competition. We are also proud to report that the Knight Foundation has just honored our project as a sponsor.
