The Downingtown Area Senior Center is our local agency for the aging population in Downingtown and 15 communities surrounding the Borough of Downingtown.
The Center originated in 1974 as a “Meals Together” program. Four seniors met weekly in the basement of the original Downingtown united Methodist Church to share meals. As the popularity of the program grew, the need for a full-service community senior center was realized and soon the Downingtown Senior Center was formed.
In April 2002, the Center was awarded a $200,000 grant from the Chester County Department of Community and Economic Development. This provided the down payment on the Center’s current 5,000 square foot facility located in a spacious one-level building on Lancaster Avenue in Downingtown.
