Downingtown Area Senior Center

The Downingtown Area Senior Center is our local agency for the aging population in Downingtown and 15 communities surrounding the Borough of Downingtown. The Center originated in 1974 as a “Meals Together” program. Four seniors met weekly in the basement of the original Downingtown united Methodist Church to share meals. As the popularity of the program grew, the need for a full-service community senior center was realized and soon the Downingtown Senior Center was formed. In April 2002, the Center was awarded a $200,000 grant from the Chester County Department of Community and Economic Development. This provided the down payment on the Center’s current 5,000 square foot facility located in a spacious one-level building on Lancaster Avenue in Downingtown.
