With our roots reaching as far back as 1926, The Signal is Georgia State University’s award-winning independent student newspaper and the proud voice of the Georgia State community.
As such, The Signal covers any and all topics relevant to the Georgia State community, including university news, student government, campus culture, college sports, and much more.
Although The Signal has told the story of Atlanta and the Georgia State community for nearly 100 years, we remain young and restless as the future of journalism and news media.
The Signal may be the beacon light of student affairs, but we also strive to create the finest journalists Georgia has to offer. And with alumni who are now part of major publications like The New York Times, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, CNN, and TIME Magazine, it is safe to say The Signal does just that.
The Signal is also a regularly ranking recipient of many college journalism awards from the Southeast Journalism Conference and Georgia College Press Association.
Recent awards include but are not limited to:
2020 Editorial Pacemaker
2019-2020 Pinnacle for Best General News Story
2020 Apple Award for Best Newspaper (2nd Place)
2020 Apple Award for Best Podcast (1st Place)
