Manchester was designated by UNESCO as a City of Literature in 2017, as part of the Creative Cities network. A consortium including the City Council, the Universities, Manchester Literature Festival and the city’s writers, publishers and literary organisations has formed to enable this to happen. We celebrate all of the things that make our city such a dynamic, diverse and inspiring place for the written and spoken word. We represent a partnership of the city's literary and cultural organisations to showcase the distinctive literary offering in Manchester.
