When small craft distilleries start up, how are they able to create their own brand of bourbon while the distillate they produce ages for X amount of years? Wouldn’t they have to wait at least years to be able to sell any product? That’s where Brown Water Bourbon Xchange comes into play.
Our model is to buy newly produced barrels of distillate, age them for 2-4 years, then sell to an end buyer for a nice return. Small, craft distilleries (and sometimes large ones!) commonly find external sources for aged bourbon.
Once they purchase aged bourbon from Exchanges like ours, they can blend, re-barrel, and flavor the bourbon in order for them to create their own unique product. This allows start-up distilleries to create a market around their brand before they even bottle their own bourbon. This is a fascinating process within the bourbon industry that, frankly, few know enough about.
