Women of Substance (WofS) support Girl Guides Queensland in their mission “To empower girls and young women to grow into confident, self respecting, responsible community members”. The Girl Guide movement has an infrastructure and extensive organisational experience in working with girls and young women. Through the hard work of hundreds of trained woman volunteers, we offer leadership and life skills development programs to more than 22,000 girls around Australia aged 5-18.
WofS are role models, advocates and supporters of girls and young women in the wider community; as part of the WofS Initiative these women are able to contribute ideas and participate in programs that educate, inform, inspire and support young women. A WofS member can be any age and come from any walk of life, with a passion for sharing her professional experiences with the next generation.
The Women of Substance (WofS) program was formed by Girl Guides Queensland in 1988. Barbara Taylor Bradford, a former Brownie and Guide, and author of the book “Women of Substance,” was delighted to give her support by allowing Girl Guides Queensland to use the title of her acclaimed novel for this exceptional group of women.
