“Wende” is a German word that means “transformation,” commonly used to describe the era leading up to and following the fall of the Berlin Wall. Headquartered in a renovated National Guard Armory in Culver City, the Wende Museum is a cultural laboratory that pairs unparalleled collections from the Cold War era with contemporary artists, filmmakers, musicians, scholars, and others to create innovative exhibitions and exciting multidisciplinary programming. Founded in 2002, the museum was primarily a scholarly archive in its early years. After the move to the Armory Building in November 2017, the Wende relaunched as a dynamic public space for artistic and community engagement.
