We are the largest youth-led social enterprise advocating for and promoting sexual reproductive health rights (SRHR) and speaking against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) through policy, awareness-raising initiatives and holistic support provision.
STER believes that an enlightened community will see the need to end rape and victim-blaming once and for all. We express this belief through our use of new media to debunk misconceptions around sexual violence and create awareness of the ills of rape culture in society. We also know the power of policies to shape our society, so we have fostered the creation & enforcement of national and regional laws to protect the rights of women and girls.
Our goal is to create a society where women and men, girls, and boys no longer have to live in fear of rape and all forms of sexual violence. STER Initiative engages in community outreach programs reaching over 200,000 Nigerians and strengthens the capacity of national institutions through training and partnerships.
A core aspect of STER’s work is to provide holistic services to survivors of sexual & gender-based violence and has supported over 900 survivors and continues to expand its services to address emerging forms of SGBV.
In recognition of her work, STER won the 2020 UN SDGs Action Mobilize award and Best Use of Social Media by a Not-for-Profit in Africa in 2015, has been featured at International Conferences and was listed as one of the top 16 women-led organizations changing the lives of Nigerian women and girls by Guardian Nigeria.
