Staatsgalerie Stuttgart

With its rich collection of masterpieces from the 14th century to the present, the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart is one of the most popular museums in Germany. The imposing museum complex as well as the collection reflect the combination of tradition and modernity. The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart presents its top-class collection on around 12,000 m2, distributed between the old building from 1843, the famous post-modern Stirling Building and the Steib Halls built in 2002. Among the important holdings are works from the Graphic Collection, Old Swabian panel painting, and outstanding works of 19th-century Swabian Classicism. Undoubtedly, Classical Modernism, with works from the years 1900 to 1980, forms the main focus of the museum's collection. Special highlights are Oskar Schlemmer's "Figurines to the Triadic Ballet" from the early 1920s, the famous "Back Nudes" (1909-1930) by Henri Matisse, numerous works by Picasso, including the sculpture group "The Bathers" (1956) and the Joseph Beuys room, which was still personally arranged by the artist.
