The Southern Rockies Seed Network has built a partnership of over 50 agencies, growers, volunteers, and non-profit organizations to collect, increase, and distribute ecotypic (i.e., locally adapted) plant materials for flood-impacted and other ecological restoration needs.
Our History:
Responding to an ever-increasing need for native and ecotypic plant materials, the Southern Rockies Seed Network became established in 2014 as a regional collaborative partnership to develop native ecotypic plant material for ecological restoration and conservation projects. Our mission is, “To preserve the genetic integrity of our native flora through collaborative planning for plant materials development.”
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, our partners and collaborators include:
-Restoration practitioners
-Multi-level government entities
-Non-profit organizations
-Seed growers & distributors
-Nurseries
-Researchers, and many others
Primary functions of the Southern Rockies Seed Network include: pooling seed needs across a broad partnership to increase demand in the market; increasing production capacity through education and networking among strategic partners; coordinating essential seed collection, production, storage, and testing activities; developing a sound provenance system; marketing; and research and development to improve knowledge and practice of ecotypic seed development and use.
