Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB) and Rotherham Sight & Sound (RSS): Making a Difference in Sheffield City Region.
SRSB was established in 1860, RSS in 2017.
SRSB and RSS provide opportunity, support, friendship and services to blind and partially sighted people in Sheffield, and people with sight and/or hearing loss in Rotherham, helping them to achieve whatever they wish to do and whatever they aspire to be.
We have a wide range of services to meet the needs of children and adults of all ages. Our services improve our clients’ quality of life.
We deliver these services in the community, supported by the facilities at our Mappin Street Centre, and our Ship Hill Centre and Cairn Home.
We support over 3,600 visually impaired people in Sheffield and in excess of 300 people access the services within our Mappin Street Centre each week. We support over 1,400 people with sight and/or hearing loss in Rotherham. Our residential care home, Cairn Home cares for up to 30 people. In addition we are able to offer some support for people from outside Sheffield and Rotherham if they are able to visit us at our Mappin Street or Ship Hill Centres.
Whilst we are an independent local charity we also work closely with government departments, local authorities, national charities, local charities and support groups to enable our clients in Sheffield and Rotherham to receive the most suitable support in an efficient manner.
We work with organisations in a variety of ways including Visual Impairment Awareness Training and opportunities to achieve Corporate Social Responsibility objectives.
