Designed by world-renowned American architect David Manica, the Shantou University Sports Park covering an area of 60,000 Sqm will house a 52,000 Sq m state-of-the-art multi-purpose sport, conference and entertainment complex with a roof garden covering the entire structure fully accessible to pedestrians offering dramatic views of the campus and surrounding countryside .
The complex will comprise of a 6,278 seating capacity indoor-basketball arena, a natatorium with Olympic-sized swimming pool, and a conference centre. This well-equipped facility will be hosting international, national and regional sporting events, concerts, exhibitions, galas, conferences and other functions that are deemed appropriate. There will also be a premium hotel of 170 rooms in the Sports Park.
With an investment of RMB560 million, construction of the Sports Park will commence in 2014, and is envisaged to be completed by 2016.
