About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.) About TED TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a conference in California 1984, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with many initiatives. The TEDx initiative grants free licenses to people around the world to organize TED-style events in their communities with TED Talks and live speakers. Selected talks from these events are also turned into TED Talks videos. TEDxColombo was formed by a group of young individuals to help spread awareness and allow our leaders and thinkers to have a stage to make a difference and speak out their ideas. This group comes from varying backgrounds and varying age groups with the same goal in mind. We are here to show our people that we can only move forward at this time in our lives. Our Vision for Sri Lanka There are many ideas that are yet to be explored in Sri Lanka. TEDxColombo will act as a platform for speakers to voice these ideas and gain recognition on a global scale. It will also enable recognized speakers to share their ideas and experiences in a more public forum. Thus, we believe that this event will help stir up debate and discussion among people in the country, and outside on pressing issues and ideas that are gaining ground today. Our theme this year is Re-Imagining Spaces and will be held on 23 August 2015 at the Hilton Colombo Residencies.
