Established 15 years ago in memory of freeskiing pioneer Shane McConkey, the Shane McConkey Foundation (SMF) has raised and channeled nearly a million dollars to environmental causes.
The Shane McConkey EcoChallenge, an environmental competition with $27,500 in prize money, is SMF's signature project. It has reached over 2,800 students in schools and community organizations across the country and encourages them to identify an environmental problem in their community and boldly solve it.
2020 Eco-Challenge Winner, Don’t Drop the Top (DDT), a sponsored SMF project, has galvanized local communities to collect plastic lids, saving them from landfills and turning them into beautiful benches. Since its inception, DDT has saved over 35,000 pounds of lids from the landfill.
Support for SMF comes from individual donors, corporations, private foundations, and the annual Pain McShlonkey Classic. www.shanemcconkeyfoundation.org
