The central Carlton location has been a prime service and entertainment location in the city since its inception in 1870 & it has served a variety of functions since then, including a cycling school at the beginning of the 20th century, a roller skating ring, a furniture store and later a 20-year stint as the Adelphi Theatre before being redeveloped in 1963 as the San Remo Ballroom.
