Founded in 2015 by brain injury survivor - Paul Spence, P.A.U.L for Brain Recovery is a non-profit, community-based support service created to make life easier after acquired brain injury (ABI). We provide support, guidance and education sessions to empower all affected. We also campaign to improve services, raise awareness, and promote understanding.
- ABI is a chronic condition with ‘hidden’ disabilities and life-long consequences.*
- In the UK, every 90 seconds there is a hospital admission for ABI*
Support plans aims to minimise the long-term effects of brain injury and optimise recovery. This can combine any of the following free sessions and activities:
• SOCIAL ACTIVITIES - social sessions, outings, day trips
• HEALTH & WELLBEING - allotment, yoga, gym, walking groups
• FAMILY SUPPORT - helping everyone affected
• ONE-TO-ONE & GROUP EDUCATION - healthy lifestyle choices, self-care, confidence, coping strategies, the brain and recovery
• PEER SUPPORT - connecting survivors
• ADVOCACY SUPPORT - assistance with accessing other relevant support/services
Sessions and activities help service users to avoid crisis, manage a life-changing disability which can often be ‘invisible’ to others, learn to accept that they have a chronic condition, feel understood and supported amongst new friends that share a similar lived experience, improve quality of life and reach their new potential.
