Orbis Africa is a non-profit organisation dedicated to saving sight worldwide. Orbis Africa is a registered PBO in South Africa and an affiliate of Orbis International. Through capacity building and training we work with our partners to develop accessible, affordable and sustainable eye health services.
Orbis Africa focuses on developing comprehensive eye health services for children as 23% of children who are blind in the world live in sub-Saharan Africa making it the most affected region. Children’s eyes are significantly different from those of adults and they require specialised treatment, surgeries, doctors and equipment. However there are very few services for children in Africa.
Orbis Africa’s child eye health model therefore incorporates strategies for early detection at a community level and swift referral to high quality medical and surgical facilities. We work with our local partners to develop the entire child eye health team to ensure children receive quality treatment and lifelong follow up care.
Orbis Africa is developing child friendly services in South Africa, Ethiopia, Zambia, Cameroon and Ghana.
