Notre Dame Education Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in South Boston. The Center has provided goal-driven education for adults and youth since 1992. NDEC provides a diverse, caring community that empowers adult learners to realize their full potential. Each year we serve more than 700 students from around Boston and around the world. Three departments offer a wide range of classes and programs, complemented by a variety of customized counseling and support:
* The Adult Education Services Department offers two programs, Adult Basic Education and HiSET (high-school equivalency test) preparation, and English for Speakers of Other Languages.
* The Youth Education Services Department offers a High School Diploma Program, which enables students with 10 or more high-school credits to complete their studies and obtain a diploma from Boston's Cathedral High School. The HiSET and Post-Secondary Preparation program is designed for Boston youth ages 16-24. Classes meet at the Tierney Learning Center in the Homes at Old Colony. Students in both programs participate in a weekly college- and career-exploration course.
* The mission of the Workforce Readiness and Career Pathways Model Department is to provide students with the employability and career-specific training that will enable them to succeed in the highly competitive Boston job market. Employment-related services include career assessments and counseling, job-search assistance, and internship opportunities. The department works with students Center-wide.
In addition, NDEC offers these services:
* Student Opportunities Initiative, which provides services and opportunities such as tutoring and college- and career-related mentoring;
* Cyber Cafe, where NDEC students and neighborhood residents can master computer basics;
* Distance and Online Learning, for students who want to improve their English skills while waiting for a space in an ESOL class;
* Citizenship Preparation.
