Musicians at Play (MAP) is a vibrant community of music professionals partnering with Los Angeles-area schools. Our mission is to transform young people's perceptions of music, abilities, and future careers in the music and related fields. We bring together composers, filmmakers, musicians, educators, and historians to offer life-changing opportunities to students across Southern California, regardless of their background or ability.
Each season, we collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and parents to create customized sequential workshops, aligning with VAPA standards and culminating in live and virtual concert programs. Our mentors provide one-on-one and small group coaching, preparing students for auditions, rehearsals, and live performances. Our programs are tuition-free, focusing on marginalized youth, their teachers, and their specific communities.
Moreover, MAP is committed to social justice, supporting students of color, English learners, and those from low-income families who face inequities in their schools. To adapt to remote learning, we've conducted over 400 hours of virtual instrumental and vocal coaching in partnership with LA school districts. We believe in nurturing the gift and inspiration of music in the lives of youth, fostering cultural and creative expression, and enhancing their self-esteem.
