Murtala Muhammed Foundation

The Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF) is a non-governmental organization, named after Murtala Ramat Muhammed, a former military head of state of Nigeria who served from 1975- 1976. The foundation was established to honor his memory and continue his legacy of public service and humanitarian work. The Murtala Muhammed Foundation is primarily focused on various humanitarian and developmental initiatives in Nigeria and across Africa. These initiatives encompass a wide range of areas, including education, women empowerment, leadership development, policy advocacy, healthcare, leadership development, and poverty alleviation. The foundation's efforts aim to improve the lives of people in underserved communities and address pressing social issues. MMF's scholarship programs provide educational opportunities to students, particularly those from underserved communities. By offering scholarships, the foundation empowers deserving students to access quality education, which can be instrumental in breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering academic excellence. MMF strengthens the capacities of women on entrepreneurship and livelihood. Trainings are offered on technical skills, life-building skills, soft skills, business management, financial literacy, and socio-cultural norms. MMF provides support to communities affected by disaster, strengthens institutional capacity to manage disaster and emergencies, and provides relief materials in the form of food items and non-food items to victims. The MMF annual lectures contribute to the formulation of many national policies and opinions on education, infrastructure development, national finance policies, etc. These activities provide an unbiased way to evaluate Nigeria's progress at various National levels and create effective networking opportunities, fostering mentorship relationships between young individuals and experienced role models.
