At Mane Chance we support children and young people who need a little more support than most, and involve them with working alongside our rescued horses in a therapeutic environment.
Chance2Be has been running since 2017, and is a programme aimed at young people who have been referred for their mental health condition as an early intervention. By helping children before their problems become too ingrained resulting in the young person going on a downwards trajectory into serious mental health problems, we hope to increase the opportunities available to them and enable them to reach their full potential.
Our Young People Support Sessions revolve around the notion of self-kindness and calm. We work alongside our horses (and other animals) to reinforce how to be less critical, angry and anxious but more confident, calm and respectful of self – and others. We work with young people who are presenting with a variety of symptoms, from ADHD, autism, eating disorder, self-harm, chronic anxiety and more.
Our horses are all rescued animals who have suffered situations of abuse, neglect or abandonment and they clearly understand how difficult and complicated life can be. Now feeling safe, loved and cared for at the Sanctuary, they give themselves so generously to our visitors who need a little support too - helping us to help them.
