Maisha Mlima

Maisha Mlima, ‘Mountain Life’ in Swahili, is an organization set up to develop trails and eco-friendly hut systems across Kenya. The mission of the organization is to promote conservation in some of the most beautiful and underused mountain ranges. We plan to build our first network of huts on Mt Kenya, the second highest peak in Africa, with a technical summit at 17,000 ft elevation. We realize that a lack of basic infrastructure on Mount Kenya limits accessibility and use of the park and pushes hikers to cut their own trails and campsites which damage the environment. We are working to create new huts in 5-6 locations that span two different sides of the mountain.
