The Landscape Foundation of Australia is committed to the protection, restoration and sustainable management of landscapes and natural environments in Australian cities and towns.
Urgent, direct and coordinated action is required to halt the process of decline and restore a sustainable relationship between people and natural environments to ensure their mutual health and survival.
We aim to achieve this goal by promoting creative and sustainable landscape planning, design and management that halts biodiversity loss from urban development, mitigates climate change impacts and restores ecological health of urban landscapes and natural environments.
Our focus is on the human-nature interactions that take place in open spaces, reserves, parklands, areas of native vegetation and riparian corridors.
The Foundation is committed to positive change that is founded on the belief that environmental degradation can be reversed through high quality planning, design and management practices that incorporate sound expertise to ensure a healthy and sustainable future for communities and urban landscapes.
The following activities are supported by the Foundation:
• funding research that generates and disseminates knowledge to inform sound decision making about landscapes and natural environments in and around cities and towns;
• funding scholarships for students whose studies focus on Australian urban landscapes and natural environments;
• facilitating community groups to undertake projects that protect and restore urban landscapes and natural environments;
• supporting communication and education programs that inform and inspire people to engage with projects that benefit their local environments; and,
• assessing the impact of these activities in achieving the goals of the Foundation.
We seek collaboration with other organisations that share our vision and are involved in activities that support the sustainable management of Australian landscapes and natural environments.
