Kids Under Cover is a not for profit organisation dedicated to preventing youth homelessness. We take a unique and innovative early intervention approach to youth homelessness that begins with the provision of stable and secure accommodation.
Committed to supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged young people between the ages of 12 and 25 since 1989, we respond to the needs of young people at risk of becoming homeless due to extreme conflict or overcrowding within the family home, mental health issues, and the housing affordability crisis. Taking an early-intervention approach to preventing youth homelessness by combining accommodation and scholarships for young people at-risk of homelessness.
Our approach is simple and focuses on early intervention to prevent youth homelessness.
Our solution is to:
Build one or two-bedroom studios (with bathroom) in the backyards of homes to keep young people connected to family.
Complemented with scholarships to keep young people engaged with education or job training.
When it comes to youth homelessness we believe prevention is better than cure. The heart of our work, our Studio Program ensure families are able to remain connected, giving them additional room to live and provide young people with a safe and secure environment.
Combined with the provision of scholarships to ensure young people remain connected to education or job training our early intervention model is simple, unique & effective.
“Homelessness is not just about a roof overhead, it’s about having a stable and secure place to call home. It’s about having a solid foundation upon which young people are afforded the support, the security and the care they need to explore their potential and become happy, healthy and productive members of the community” Jo Swift, CEO
