Intersnack Knabber-Geb?ck GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1995 as a result of the merger between the Convent Group and Wolf Bergstrasse. Since then it has been the market leader in the salted snacks sector in Germany with the Chio, funny-frisch, Pom-B?r and Wolf Bergstrasse brands.
Chio crisps was the first potato crisp brand in Germany. Irmgard von Opel brought the secret of crispy potato slices over from the USA. In 1962 the Opel family set up the first production plant for Chio crisps (Carlo, Heinz and Irmgard von Opel) on their property at Petersau near Frankenthal.
In 1968 Pfeifer & Langen, a company with a long tradition, established the Chipsfrisch company. Its first product Chipsfrisch ungarisch has to this day been Germany's most successful potato crisp brand. Chipsfrisch started with its own Frischdienst sales organisation, which even today still guarantees the unmistakable freshness of the products on the shelf. In 1972 Chipsfrisch merged with the salted snacks division of the Munich based company Pfanni. This led to a common range of nibbles under the new company name of funny-frisch.
