Here at the Heretaunga Women’s Centre, we work collectively for positive change for women. We believe in supporting women, and sharing our skills and strengths to provide women with resources to learn about and take responsibility for their own wellbeing. We promote a firm belief in the work and dignity of every woman, regardless of colour, age, race, ability, religion or sexual preference. The Centre provides a safe environment for women to grow and develop, and find support and companionship.
The Centre started life in 1921 as a Women’s Rest: a place where women could come to rest, feed their babies and take lunch with friends from all walks of life. Over the years the Women’s Rest has provided an important and much valued service to the women of Hastings and surrounding district. Many will remember this as the Plunket rooms and over the years, thousands of casual users have welcomed the location of the nursery and toilets.
Today, we provide a safe, welcoming environment for women and offer confidential, non-judgemental support in the form of fun social groups and services such as counselling and legal advice. So take a look at the courses and services we offer, and come along to visit us next time you’re nearby.
Be welcomed, inspired and empowered.
