One of the most basic human needs is a home. In the physical sense, we need shelter from the elements, a safe place to rest our heads and recharge. On a social and emotional level, we learn at home through our relationships with our family members. And it’s in this domestic church where, guided by our parents, we first meet the God who loves us. As Saint Mother Teresa put it, love begins at home. From there, we can share that love with our community, and the world beyond.
But what if we don’t have a home? Or if the roof over our heads doesn’t protect us? Not only do we lack physical security and well-being, but we lose that special place crucial to our development into the men and women God calls us to be.
At Hands of the Carpenter, we are aware of the sad truth that many people lack safe housing, or housing altogether. Our mission is to provide sturdy shelters for our neighbors in need on the foundation of Christ.
Sturdy Shelters
Everyone should have a resilient roof to call their own. Drawing on our construction and design expertise, we will collaborate with local partners to build secure homes using sustainable resources. In the process, we will strengthen community capacity to support residential construction over the long term.
Neighbors in Need
Our target communities suffer from widespread lack of housing. They may live far from us, but, like the Good Samaritan, we recognize Jesus’s call to serve our neighbors whomever they are, and wherever they are.
The Foundation of Christ
We are motivated by our faith in a God who loves every one of us, including our brothers and sisters who are least in the eyes of the world.
