Gmedia Center

Overall Objective Gmedia Center is a Geneva based initiative whose overall objective is to empower media to further civil society goals on human rights and democracy. Gmedia Center will facilitate the necessary interaction between international actors and the media to enhance journalists’ capabilities in human rights reporting and maintain these connections through a global web community dedicated to furthering civil society goals. Specific Objectives More specifically, the Gmedia Center Human Rights programme is designed to increase media’s access to the sessions of the Human Rights Council and Treaty Bodies, to the relevant human rights actors and materials, and to ensure quality coverage of human rights issues, reports and recommendations. This programme is structured around the organization of several human rights workshops for journalists in Geneva in conjunction with the sessions of the Human Rights Council and Treaty Bodies. Through these workshops, journalists will familiarize themselves with key human rights documents, mechanisms, and institutions, as well as learn how to use them in their daily reporting. This is also a unique opportunity for experienced journalists from developing countries to become familiar with the concrete work of the Human Rights Council and Treaty Bodies, discussions and recommendations, and to interact with key global players on major human rights issues.
