Global Alliance for Textiles Sustainability Council (GATS) is an industry-led nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sustainability, circularity, and recycling within the textiles and apparel industry.
Our mission is to bring together stakeholders from all sectors of the industry, including pre- and post-consumer waste collectors, sorters, recyclers, spinners, textile mills, home furnishing, and garment manufacturers, to collaborate on:
1.Identifying Problems: We work collectively to identify key challenges and issues facing the textiles and apparel industry in terms of sustainability, circularity, and recycling. By understanding we can develop strategies for addressing them.
2. Developing Sustainable Solutions: GATS facilitates the development of innovative and sustainable solutions to the identified problems. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, we strive to find practical and feasible solutions that benefit both the industry and the environment.
3. Solutions/Product Development: We support the development and implementation of sustainable solutions and products that promote circularity and recycling in the textiles and apparel industry. This includes exploring new materials, processes, and technologies that minimize waste and environmental impact.
4. Piloting Implementation: GATS coordinates pilot projects to test and evaluate the effectiveness of proposed solutions in real-world settings. These pilot initiatives allow us to gather valuable data and insights to refine our strategies and scale up successful interventions.
In pursuit of our goals, GATS actively engages with stakeholders across the industry value chain and collaborates with key partners, including the Textiles Ministry, knowledge institutions such as the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), Fashion for Good, IDH, Reverse Resources, and premier educational institutes IITs and NIFTs.
