Tobacco use, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. These illnesses are the leading cause of death in Argentina and worldwide. To tackle this problem the InterAmerican Heart Foundation-Argentina (FIC Argentina) was launched in 2009, associated with the Inter American Heart Foundation, an internationally recognized organization in the Americas.
The FIC Argentina agenda is guided by a comprehensive public health concept that includes the necessary participation and commitment of stakeholders from different sectors such as healthcare, legal, economic, and social organizations. For this reason FIC Argentina develops programs and projects with an interdisciplinary-not merely medical- approach.
FIC Argentina’s mission is to prevent cardiovascular and chronic diseases by promoting public health policy changes and healthy lifestyles.
The organization advocates for the implementation of effective public policies and develops educational and capacity building activities addressing both the general public and specific audiences such as the health sector, the media, and civil society organization.
FIC Argentina’s work is divided in three broad areas:
TOBACCO CONTROL / HEALTHY DIET / PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
In each area, the organization undertakes projects and programs focused on prevention and promotion of healthy lifestyles from different perspectives (community health, gender, youth issues, etc.).
