Deerfield, Delaware's premier public golf, specials events & wedding venue, is as hard to categorize as it is to duplicate. Originally built in 1955 by the DuPont Corporation for its employees, Deerfield was first known as Louviers Country Club. In 1994 MBNA purchased the club from DuPont and developed the property by adding a clubhouse ballroom and recreational building, renaming it Deerfield. In 2005 the state of Delaware acquired the 145-acre property in order to protect the land from development and retained Forewinds Hospitality to manage the property. On April 14, 2006, Deerfield reopened to the public for the first time in 51 years. Today, the club is part of Delaware's White Clay Creek State Park supervised by the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation.
