Community Music Center of Boston (CMCB) is an arts education nonprofit founded in 1910, with a mission to transform lives by providing equitable access to excellent music education and arts experiences. Over 2,500 students participate in our programs every week. We are proud to act as the largest external provider of arts education to the Boston Public Schools, supporting learner-centered and culturally-inclusive musical instruction for one of the most diverse school districts in the nation.
CMCB is a cornerstone for local arts education. We offer lessons and classes in our Community Music School; our Community Engagement Programs support participation in classroom music and music therapy at schools and community centers throughout Boston. Our Youth Employment Program offers well-paying jobs and opportunities for leadership development and workforce training in the arts. CMCB plays an important role in national conversations on cultural equity and creative youth development, with staff and faculty frequently featured in national forums presented by agencies like Sphinx, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Guild for Community Arts Education, Juilliard, Carnegie Hall, and more.
