Communities In Schools is the nation's largest dropout prevention organization working in public schools to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. We are first and foremost, advocates for children.
We work with other entities to address the root causes of academic failure, including poverty, lack of health care, child abuse, homelessness and domestic violence. Last year, in Spokane County, our Student Support Coordinators helped 6,342 students overcome barriers to success, stay on track to graduate, and aim for a brighter future.
We Work at the School Level to:
- Identify students most at-risk for dropping out
- Match identified students with Student Support Coordinators who set academic goals with the student and develop a plan to achieve that goal
- Obtain services from existing internal and external providers, regularly monitor student progress, advocate for student and connect student to school services and activities
We Work at the Community Level to:
- Create partnerships with health and human service groups
- Review data, laws, policies and regulations affecting children and families
- Advocate for systems change on behalf of all children
