She was beautiful. She was sunshine. She never complained. At 3 years old, Caroline Symmes was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor Disease. Caroline’s tumor was very aggressive, and there was little in the way of research for pediatric cancers so despite their efforts, her physicians quickly exhausted their options to treat the disease. Caroline Symmes was 5 years old when cancer ended her life.
The Caroline Symmes Endowment for Pediatric Cancer Research at Riley Hospital for Children is the gift Caroline leaves behind. With our endowment, we will fund the new Non-CNS Solid Tumor Program at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, IN, a research department with the goal of giving every child the future they deserve. It is the only program of its kind with the aim to both fund cutting-edge research and provide children with clinical care based on the findings of that research.
