Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland (BGCO) is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization chartered and dedicated to developing its community’s youth into positive contributors to society. To that end, BGCO’s 3 flatland Oakland facilities are available and affordable to provide deserving kids and teens ages 6 to 17 with safe places to learn and grow; and where they can get the help needed to achieve academic success, develop good character and citizenship, and adopt healthy lifestyles.
BGCO’s facilities feature library/learning centers, computer labs, social recreation spaces, teen centers, and full gymnasiums (the Anna Marie Branch on High Street features those already listed plus a stage for performing arts and a state-of-the-art music recording studio).
Within its strategically located facilities, BGCO's full and part-time Program Directors coordinate a menu of youth development programs after school and year-round with assistance from teen staff and a dedicated corps of community volunteers. The structured programs, services, and activities that our teams deliver are fun, purposeful, and range from tutoring and homework assistance to seasonal team sports; and from STEM to defensive/safe driving. Our results are great students who are physically fit, fundamentally sound, exhibit positive leisure time habits, and graduate from high school on time.
